SPORTFIVE transformed five city blocks in East Downtown Houston into a FIFA World Cup destination, delivering a 34-day Fan Festival that welcomed 500,000+ attendees and broadcasted more than 100 matches.
Houston was one of only three U.S. cities to operate a fan festival throughout the entire tournament.
The fan-first experience drove lasting cultural, economic, and community impact.
In this Success Story:
While many FIFA World Cup host cities ultimately reduced the size, scope, or duration of their Fan Festival plans, Houston chose a different path. As one of only three U.S. cities to host a Fan Festival throughout the entirety of the tournament, Houston embraced the World Cup as a citywide celebration, creating a destination where fans could gather every match day. At a time when other markets scaled back, Houston went bigger: the Space City’s East Downtown district became a vibrant hub of culture, community, and football.
To bring that vision to life, the FIFA World Cup 26 Houston™ Host Committee partnered with SPORTFIVE to design, produce, and operate the FIFA Fan Festival™ Houston. Across all 34 match days, SPORTFIVE’s U.S. and U.K.-based teams led all aspects of the experience: from site design and event production to hospitality, sponsor integration, programming, and operations.
The results were extraordinary. The Fan Festival welcomed over 500,000 attendees throughout the tournament. Fans gathered to watch matches across seven different LED screens, enjoy live entertainment on a full stage, explore interactive sponsor activations, participate in soccer skill challenges, visit retail stores, and experience VIP hospitality experiences and a variety of Houston’s finest food trucks. Attendees spent roughly two hours on-site per visit, reflecting not only the scale of the event, but the depth of engagement SPORTFIVE created for fans, partners, and stakeholders alike.
“This endeavor embodied everything SPORTFIVE does best,” said Marc Tarozzi, Head of Experiential & Production at SPORTFIVE. “We brought together live event production, fan engagement, hospitality, sponsorship activation, community programming, and operational excellence. The Fan Festival demonstrated what is possible when a city fully embraces the World Cup and when a collective group is willing to dream bigger than what's been done before."

This vision came to life through a fan-first experience designed to celebrate both the global nature of the World Cup and Houston’s unique identity. The festival's signature “Football Fiesta” concept extended the atmosphere beyond the venue itself, integrating neighboring restaurants, bars, and businesses into the celebration and helping transform East Downtown into one of the tournament's premier gathering places.
One of the festival's most distinctive features was Aramco Arena, a SPORTFIVE-designed 7-v-7 pitch activation that became a centerpiece of the site. More than a traditional sponsorship activation, the venue served as a hub for youth soccer, interactive experiences, open play, and live programming, making it the largest branded activation zone within the festival. This included a collaboration with Full Swing to create a customized soccer simulation game, the Power Rankings Challenge, where thousands of fans tested their shooting skills to try and top the daily Leaderboard and win prizes.
The Fan Festival also demonstrated SPORTFIVE's operational expertise. With heat mitigation a priority, extensive cooling measures included misting stations, fans, shaded gathering areas, water refill stations, an air-conditioned Houston Hall, cooling towels and even regular cool down sprays from Houston Fire Department truck. In order to deliver an inclusive experience for the fans from Houston and from around the world, a focus on diversity included accessible facilities and viewing areas, areas, family amenities, sensory kits, public transportation access, charging stations, and prayer rooms spaces that even included foot washing stations.
The impact resonated far beyond attendance figures. In a feature on Houston's Fan Festival, Front Office Sports reported that Houston Mayor John Whitmire attended the event nearly every day throughout the tournament. Reflecting on the experience, Whitmire said, “I grew up in Houston, been in office my whole adult life, and I've been to Super Bowls, World Series. I really have never seen anything like this.” For a city determined to embrace the World Cup in a way few others did, it was a powerful endorsement of what was created in East Downtown.

Perhaps most importantly, the festival leaves a lasting legacy. Following the tournament, the Aramco Arena pitch and equipment will be donated to the Host Committee in support of Houston's “Grow the Game” initiative and ensuring the impact of the project extends far beyond the final whistle.
Ultimately, the FIFA Fan Festival™ Houston showcased SPORTFIVE’s ability to create experiences that connect fans, brands, communities, and culture at the highest level. By combining ambitious vision, flawless execution, meaningful community engagement, and world-class fan experiences, SPORTFIVE helped transform Houston into one of the defining destinations of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and delivered a blueprint for the future of fan engagement on sport’s biggest stages.
